If you see a socket error when using the Save to Amion feature to publish your schedule on amion.com, a firewall is usually preventing OnCall from communicating with the Amion server.
Firewalls typically use a proxy server. In OnCall, go to File / Preferences / System to find the field where you can enter a proxy server. Contact your IT help desk and let them know you have an application that needs to communicate with a server using standard HTTP POST commands. Ask for the name of your proxy server. It will look like a web address, such as proxy.myhospital.com. You should also ask which port it uses. If the port is anything other than 80, enter it in the proxy field with a space or colon between the server name and port number, like this:
proxy.myhospital.com 8080
If the initial message says that OnCall is trying to contact a server other than amion.com—for example, something like “127.0.0.1”—go to File / Publish on the web. Hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys, then click the Online options button. Nothing will appear to happen, but this key combination resets some of OnCall’s communication settings. After pressing Ctrl + Alt and clicking, try Quick Send again.
OnCall can communicate through most firewalls, but it does not support authentication. If your firewall requires proxy authentication, OnCall may display an Unexpected, oversize reply message. Ask your IT department whether they can create a firewall exception that allows traffic to and from amion.com without authentication.
*NEW as of 3.20* Web filters used with Fortinet firewalls are configured to use proxy-based inspection. When this profile is enabled, you may receive a socket error even if your hospital’s firewall does not show any blocked traffic. Change all traffic to amion.com to use a flow-based inspection profile.
If OnCall still cannot communicate with the server, you can investigate further by running OnCall in debug mode. Click here for instructions. The file C:\OnCall.dbg will contain a log of the communication between OnCall and the server, which can help identify the problem.
If you cannot get Quick Send to work, you can publish through a web browser instead. Go to File / Publish and click the Admin Login button. OnCall will open a browser window and take you to the Amion Administrator page. A text cursor will flash in a box near the top. Press Ctrl + V or select Edit / Paste. Your schedule file name should appear in the box. Press Enter or click Send to publish it.
